God is unique.

He is the creator and the master of Universe. He created the earth from nothing. The idea of transcendence is introduced right in the first verse of Genesis. God is above everything, He knows all. As Moses Maimonide known as Ramban, philosopher and Medical Doctor ( 1135 – 1204) explains in Le Livre des Egarés: "God is the being who is being, that means, the necessary being." In Judaism, God can not be represented in a human being-like shape, for he is beyond man’s imagination. Moreover, the Jewish tradition for reason of respect forbids the Jews to pronounce God’s name. Yahweh is made up of four consonants in Hebrew that makes a Tetragram YHWH that means "The one that is, that has been and who will be." God cannot be named, so, one uses circumlocutions Him, Hashem: the name that is a periphrasis, Adonaï : Lord, title by which Man acknowledges the sovereignty of God, Elohim: God in excellence which is the plural of majesty. It is not a numerical plural.

God created man in his image.

God put in Man a moral conscience that pushes him to do good. But man is tempted to do evil. Man has the freedom of choice between good and evil. By his own strength Man is capable of good and contributes actively to his salvation by obeying to the divine commandments. This conception of Man is different from the one of christianism, whereby Man is affected by evil since the Adam and Eve sinned in the garden and should repent in order to be saved.

God made a covenant with man.

Human being aspires to do good. And to guide him, God gave him the Torah . With Abraham, God chose a people for himself and made a covenant with him. God promised a holy land to his people and in return they should remain faithful to him and adore only him. "And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee He is also a jealous God who hates idols (See Ex 20,5). God punishes or rewards man according to his own deeds. Finally , the obedience to the divine law does not only concern religious life, but guides all the daily life.

Moise Mainmonide wrote thirteen articles of faith, in which we understand what the plan of God in Judaism is.

1. God created and governs everything that exists. God is one. 3. God is spirit and can not be represented. 4. God is eternal. 5. God is the sovereign of the world to whom we should address our prayers. 6. God revealed himself to prophets. 7. Moses is the greatest among the prophets. 8. The laws was given to Moses by God. 9. The law of God in unchangeable. 10. God knows all the actions and the thoughts of men. 11. God compensates those who accomplish his will and punishes those who go against it. 12. God will send the Messiah that has been announced by the prophets. 13. The soul is immortal and the dead shall rise.
